Event Description

Course Description

By the end of this course, participants will be able to describe the primary purposes and goals of outreach, clearly communicate their roles and functions as outreach workers to residents when entering a community, and identify ways to obtain information about target communities. Participants will also practice interpersonal communication skills and develop a one-on-one approach to educating street contacts about HIV/AIDS. Participants will also identify the impact of drug abuse and addiction in target communities, and identify the unique challenges for effective prevention education. Finally, participants will be able to implement a decision-making model to respond appropriately to typical crisis that arise during outreach. They will also identify several common community outreach challenges that can compromise the outreach worker’s credibility and strategies to effectively handle these challenges. This training is appropriate for both new and veteran outreach workers.

CEU Credit

7 Alcohol & Drug- Specific and 7 Alcohol and Drug- Related credits will be provided for participants who complete the entire training. However, no partial credit will be given for incomplete courses. Certificates of Completion will be awarded to participants at the end of the training. Continuing Education Units are provided for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors and Social Workers. Sponsors may apply for other types of credits.
