Event Description

Communication may sometimes seem easy, yet it is one of the most challenging pieces of our work and personal life.  Assertive communication is based on the assumption that you are the foremost expert of your own thoughts, feelings, wants, and behavior.   Therefore, you are the best advocate for expressing your positions to others on issues that are important to you.  Assertiveness indicates that you have the right to express your position and try to negotiate your differences.

This dynamic seminar introduces four basic styles of communication—assertive, aggressive, passive, and passive-aggressive styles.  Strategies will be given to: give feedback assertively, use “I” messages, and develop a personalized script for becoming more assertive. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a questionnaire that will assist in differentiation of challenging situations and exercises that illustrate different assertive techniques.   The goal of this seminar is for you to feel more relaxed in your communication, and more effectively be able to assert your position with others.
