Event Description

Peers Making Peace: Positive Action Center training is 6 hours in duration and covers  the following areas:  One-to-one mentoring skills, Active Listening, Basic Human Behavior, Problem Identification, Problem Solving, How to Develop a Resolution Plan, Plan Implementation, and Follow-up. The goals of PAC are:  reduce the number of student referrals to ISS and AEP; reduce violence and alcohol and drug use; and, improve decision making, communication, problem solving, listening, resiliency, and school bonding among high-risk youth.  Upon completion of this training, trained peer mentors will work with high risk students who have been referred to In School Suspension (ISS) or the districts Alternative Education Program (AEP).  These individuals are at the greatest risk of academic failure and for developing mental health problems or having their current mental health problems, diagnosed or undiagnosed, progress to a more dysfunctional state. PAC was designed to provide an opportunity to enhance the skills of the trained mediators and create additional school resources for high risk students
