Details for "Prevention Staff Training: Risk and Protective Factors/Building Resiliency"
The objectives of this workshop are:
1) To guide participants in how to shift current risk/deficit practices
to a resilient/strength orientation;
2) Review the factors found in resilient youth and the protective
factors that foster them;
3) Provide strategies and activities known to foster these factors in
children and youth.
Mendi Melton, CPS, B.S. is a Training Coordinator for Rainbow Days,
Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Ms. Melton has a Bachelor of Science in Speech
Communications and has over 15 years of experience working in the
prevention field with at-risk children and youth. She is a nationally
certified trainer for many Prevention programs which include The Life
Skills Teacher Training, Curriculum-Based Support Group Training, and
The Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14. Ms.
Melton has also worked hands-on with families. She has been a Juvenile
Probation Officer, case manager for mentally ill children and worked in
the classroom with emotionally disturbed children. She is an active
advocate for drug abuse prevention services.

***All DSHS Providers are funded for this event***
This is a (3) hour training, meeting 3 hours of the 15 hours required
for new DSHS Prevention & Intervention Staff during their first 3
months of employment.
Coordinated
Training Services (CTS) reserves the right to cancel any training for
which a minimum of five (5) participants have not pre-registered within
10 days prior to the training. |
