Mark your calendars and pack your bags for an exploration of the world of Street Outreach.  Your global tour will start in Austin, Texas,  June 14th – 17th, 2009 at the annual Street Outreach Workers Conference. Your tour guides will explore global and local best practices to enhance your journey as an Outreach Professional.

Points on your tour will include:

• Border Outreach and Health
• Motivational Interviewing
• Community Coalition Building and Outreach Advocacy
• Recruitment and Retention in Services
• Self-Care for the Outreach Worker
• Women and HIV
• Outreach to Youth

• LGBTQ Outreach
• Faith Based Outreach
• Cultural Competency

SPECIAL EVENTS

• On Sunday evening, Aids Services of Austin will host networking and karaoke and light refreshments will be served. Sunday, June 14th 6-8 p.m.
• A Memorial Room will be open throughout the day on Monday for traditional gatherings to remember those who are HIV infected, diagnosed with AIDS, work in the HIV/AIDS field, and/or have died from complications of AIDS. Monday, June 15th 9am-5pm
• Bring your input and meet up for Roundtable Discussions on Tuesday afternoon. Various outreach topics will be represented and you will have an opportunity to discuss them with colleagues. During the Roundtable Discussions, we will also be displaying poster presentations highlighting success stories from different Outreach Programs and/or Evidence Based outreach strategies. Tuesday, June 16th 2-4pm. If you would like to sign up to lead a Roundtable Discussion or Poster Presentation,  please fill out a Scholarship Form at the link below.
• Join us for tango, salsa and belly dance lessons from 7-8pm before we kick off the Tuesday night Global Getdown in the main ballroom! Dance to international music and enjoy a variety of treats from around the world. Finish out the night with your favorites tunes from DJ Kathy. Light refreshments will be served. Tuesday, June 16th 8-10 p.m.
COURES CREDITS, CANCELLATIONS AND REFUND POLICIES

Approximately 11 total credit hours are available for participants completing all conference sessions. Participants must sign-in at each workshop for verification of attendance and complete each workshop in its entirety in order to receive workshop credits. The Texas HIV Connection will provide LPC, Social Work, and LCDC credit hours. The Texas HIV Connection is provider-approved by the TCBAP Standards Committee, Provider No. 00537-90, expiration August, 2009. Requests for refunds due to cancellations must be made in writing and postmarked or faxed to our office by 5 p.m. on May 31st and are subject to a $20 processing fee. Biography

THE DAN RAWLINS PLENARY KEYNOTE: KEVIN IRWIN

Kevin Irwin is a Research Associate at the Yale School of Public Health and an AIDS Consultant for the California Department of Public Health.  He has extensive experience in global outreach as well as outreach within the United States. He has studied outreach in Russia, Eurasia, India and North America and worked with injection drug users in the former Soviet Republic and sex workers in New Delhi. He will speak on how lessons learned overseas have influenced his work in the U.S and he will describe approaches used in other countries that are appropriate to apply in the United States. Finally, he will describe outreach to heroin users In the United States and his advocacy for the use of Naloxone to prevent overdose.
