Save the Date for the 5th Annual HIV & Substance Abuse Conference

This year’s CBAF DSHS MHSA 5th Annual Conference in Corpus Christi will be a bit different for HEI program case managers and supervisors.  We have made some schedule changes and clearly indicated some required meetings and trainings which have been specifically designed for the HEI track. The list below captures the changes and required sessions.

This year:

  1. ** We are having an HEI luncheon meeting with a presentation by Doug Denton the Exec. Dir. of Homeward Bound. They are making some positive program changes in FY11 and will provide us with this info and how to refer clients, as well as more detailed information on the clients served this past year.  Lunch will served and so will CEUs. THIS IS FOR SUPERVISORS PLUS ONE DIRECT STAFF, BY INVITATION ONLY.

  1. I will not be scheduling individual meetings with any of the HEI programs unless requested.  Feel free to email me and let me know if you want to specifically meet with me during the conference to discuss your program, etc., I will definitely make time for you and/or your staff so that it doesn’t interfere with you going to workshops.

  1. *All HEI case managers will be asked to attend 1 of 2 (repeated) Advanced Motivational Interviewing trainings with James Sacco (he spoke on MI last year).  Even if you are a new HEI case manager or a “beginner” in MI, please attend and take advantage of MI training materials that supervisors have or contact the HIV Connection so you can prepare ahead of time.  This will be an excellent opportunity to take your skills to a new level, build upon what you know, practice MI, and get feedback.   The HIV Connection will be assigning you to one of the two sessions.  Please stay with your assigned session since the sessions will be interactive and we want to keep them to about 20 people each.

HEI case managers and supervisors will be assigned to attend either the session from
1:30 – 3:00 on Wed  OR the  3:15-4:45 session on Wed., Sept. 15, 2010

.
  1. *All HEI program supervisors and coordinators are required to also sign up for the required MI training for supervisors with James Sacco.  This means that the supervisors/coordinators will actually be attending 2 sessions, one on MI skills/practice (along with the case managers) and one on MI training supervisors how to incorporate MI principles more when training staff, observing and giving feedback

HEI Supervisors/Coordinators MI session will be 10:15 -11:45 on Thurs, Sept. 16, 2010

  1. Please join us for a fun and exciting evening of networking during the conference on Wednesday, September 15th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

You must register at this CBAF conference website and will be given your assigned specific sessions during registration check-in on-site.

*required attendance for HEI
